General Electric Brazil

General Electric has been one of the most successful global companies of the 20th century. To keep this position in the 21st century they have realized that they must invest into reaching the 2/3 of the world’s population who haven’t yet had the financial means to afford their products.

In July 2010 Ferdinando “Nani” Beccalli-Falco, President and CEO GE International, initiated a cooperation with the ICCLab in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Developing new business models in the areas of water supply, electricity and health care, with the specific aim to cater to the needs of people at the base of the pyramid. Harry Barkema, Executive Director of the ICCLab, conducted a series of workshops with local GE managers to design and implement new business models in these areas until November 2010.
