Business Model Innovation Research

Current research projects in this stream apply innovative business strategies to these paradoxical markets in order to affirm the models' universality. Primarily, the mechanisms driving crowdsourcing – i.e., crowd wisdom in concert with motivation and recognition systems – can be extended to support collective financing. In turn, this "crowdfunding" effort can be compared and contrasted with microfinance collective borrowing. Research aims to revisit and then to apply the components of traditional reputation systems and methods of "credit scoring" in these emerging markets. Reciprocally, findings from these arenas then should inform emerging reputation economies in online communities of practice, and should contribute to the development of new business models to be active within the same.
